Piedmont and Barolo Vineyards Trail

Discover the landscapes of the Langhe region of northern Italy set between the Alps and the Apennine mountains, famous from the rolling vineyards and the Barolo wine. This land is blessed with rich and fertile lands that produce extraordinary specialties included gourmet cheeses, delicious pastries and hazelnut chocolates. As you walk amongst vineyards between picturesque medieval villages, elegant castles and feudal towers. You will have plenty of opportunity to enjoy the food and wine of the area.

Day 1: Alba
There are few more enticing destinations for gourmet travelers than Alba, a picturesque town in the heart of Piedmont that's renowned world-wide for its succulent white truffles, velvety red Barolo and Barbaresco wines and wonderful fruit. Let your nose carry you through town to the traditional and simple, wonderful restaurants, shops and bars that seem to be dotted along every cobblestone street.... Overnight stay in Alba.

Day 2:Alba – Barbaresco – Neive (3h30 hiking, + 475m -364m, 11.5 km )
The climb to Barbaresco from Alba, through vineyards and orchards, will enchant you with its bright colors and panoramic views. You will enjoy this beautiful hike on the banks of the Tanaro, through the famous Barbaresco. Explore Neive, considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, starting with its wines during a tasting at a local “Enoteca”. In the afternoon, return by bus to Alba. Dinner and overnight in Alba.

Day 3: La Morra – Roddi – Alba (5 hours hiking + 375m - 511m, 19.4 km)
In the morning, short transfer to the outskirts of La Morra, where you will discover the surprising “Cappella del Barolo”. A slight uphill trail takes you to the village of La Morra, the "balcony of Langhe". Continue through the vineyards and hazels to Roddi and enjoy a tasting of one of the jewels of the region, the truffle. Then a walk along the Tanaro River will take you back to Alba. Overnight stay in Alba.

Day 4: Castiglione - Monforte d'Alba (4 hours hiking, + 450m – 325m, 14 km)
In the morning, short transfer to the charming Castiglione d'Alba. Slightly descending to the Talloria Valley, follow the path to Barolo Castle, where this famous wine is produced. Visit Novello, a scenic lookout town with views of the two neighboring valleys before continuing through fields. Dinner and overnight in Monforte d'Alba.

Day 5: Monforte d'Alba - Serralunga d'Alba – Barolo (3 hours hiking,+ 560m -430m, 13.6 km)
From Monforte, follow a well-marked path that will take you to Serralunga d'Alba through chapels and the green countryside, to discover its impressive castle and taste the famous Barolo. You will appreciate the visit of a cellar which will end with the tasting of regional wines. In the afternoon, return to Monforte. Overnight stay in Monforte d'Alba.

Day 6: Cerreto Langhe - Cortemilia (4h15 hiking, + 780m -119m, 17.3 km)
Short transfer to Cerreto Langhe, starting point of today's walk. Visit the church of Cerreto Langhe and then cross the region of Upper Langhe, famous for its hazelnuts and its landscape dominated by hazelnut forests and Belbo Valley in Cravanzana. Then, a nice descent will take you to the Torre Bormida tower, where you will cross the river of the same name. A steep climb will take you to Bergolo, one of the smallest characteristic municipalities in this region. Crossing the woods, you will arrive at Cortemilia, a pretty town of Roman origin. Enjoy free time to explore Cortemilia and in the afternoon transfer to Asti. Overnight in Asti.

Day 7:
After breakfast, end of the trip.

- 1 night in hotel*** in Cortemilia
